I wrote this song, “The Nashville Dream”, with Larysa Jaye. I was so heartbroken when Larysa tragically passed away in a car accident at 40 years old on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, leaving behind four beautiful children and a legacy of amazing music she created and performed. She wrote powerful songs of motherhood, broke down walls for Black women performing and creating country music, and inspired so many in leaving her mark on the Nashville music scene and beyond. I am grateful and honored to have had the privilege to create one piece of music with this beautiful soul.

Larysa performed “The Nashville Dream” live at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley Nashville Nashville in May of 2024 at a showcase by The Academy of Country Music (ACM - Academy of Country Music) and the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC). The showcase was in celebration of the completion of the ACM and BMAC inaugural OnRamp professional development program, in which Larysa participated. This video was captured at that performance by Nashville Heatwaves.

LYRIC FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE - MAY 29, 2024
3rd & Lindsley - ACM & BMAC OnRamp Showcase

Right hand guitar
Left hand tip jar
Hustling bustling
Trying to make it to my show

First gig 10 AM
Twelve hours later starting all over again
Not 9 to 5
But it's the life I've come to know

Oh, this is freedom
Oh, this is freedom
For me this is freedom
Dreams turn into full time plans
But all I ever hear is “one day, you’ll make it big”

What's bigger than me?
Out here chasing dreams
Little girls all over the world wanna be me
What's bigger than me?
Me and my friends
Playing at all these bars just to make ends
People from all over the world come to watch and see
The Nashville dream

Late night drive home
Feeling grateful
For every bump every valley every mountain
Every yes every no

And we all play the same songs
Note for note people sing along
Smiling faces brighter than the neon lights
Lighting up my soul

This is freedom
Dropping bits of stardust in their eyes
And I'm not the only one making a living doing what I love

And that's bigger than me
Out here chasing dreams
Little girls all over the world wanna be me
And that's bigger than me
Me and my friends
Playing at all these bars just to make ends
People from all over the world come to watch and see
The Nashville dream

What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?

What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
The Nashville dream

What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
The Nashville dream

What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
What’s bigger than me?
The Nashville dream

What's bigger than me?
Out here chasing dreams
Little girls all over the world wanna be me
And that's bigger than me
Me and my friends
Playing at all these bars just to make ends
People from all over the world come to watch and see
The Nashville dream

The Nashville dream
